Trip to Alaska on the Alaska Adventurer
The Inside Passage
July 23 - Aug 03, 2009
We arrived in Petersburg, AK on July 22, disoriented by jet lag, but eagerly anticipating our experience aboard the Alaska Adventurer, captained by Dennis Rogers, for 8 days. We were also accompanied by Mate Todd, a most diligent hard worker, Chef Shawn (www.alaskanchefshawn.com) who plied us with delicacies on a daily basis, and our six shipmates: Jim and Mary Ann with their son Will; Randy and Collene; and Barbara, a veteran of about 14 trips on the AA.
On our arrival Petersburg was predictably cool and rainy, and we immediately had the opportunity to use our newly bought rain gear. The air was very fresh and the temperature a welcome relief from the 90s of Florida. Petersburg is a small, beautiful town built on fishing. There are several salmon canneries here. Its founder Peter Buschmann was Norwegian and the Norwegian influence remains strong.
